Our Story

Some things are worth carrying for years. This is the story of the people who make our hemp bags by hand, the plant we make them from, and why we choose to do it slowly.

Why We Exist

We wanted bags worth keeping

TheProudLondon began with a simple frustration — travel gear that looked the part but fell apart, made to be replaced instead of kept. We wanted the opposite: an everyday bag you could carry hard, that only looked better for it.

The bags that won us over were handmade in Nepal, hand-loomed from hemp by makers whose skill you could feel the moment you picked one up. We set out to bring those hemp backpacks and bags to people in the UK who care how their things are made — and who makes them.

We're a small brand, and we choose to stay that way. It lets us work closely with the makers we partner with, keep our batches small, and stand behind every bag we send out.

The Material

Why we choose hemp

Hemp is one of the oldest fabrics we know — and, it turns out, one of the best for a bag you'll actually use.

Strong by nature

Hemp is one of the toughest natural fibres there is. It holds its shape, shrugs off wear, and takes the knocks of daily carry and travel in its stride.

Softens with every use

Crisp at first, then better with age. Hemp breaks in like good denim — the bag you own in a year feels nicer than the one you unboxed.

A lower-impact fibre

Hemp grows fast and asks little of the land — ours is grown without pesticides, then woven with organic cotton into a bag made to last, not to be replaced.

The Makers

Handmade in Nepal, one batch at a time

Every bag is made by skilled makers in Nepal — hand-loomed and finished in small batches, the way it has been done for a very long time. The people who make them are paid fairly for their craft, and you can feel it in the work.

Because each one is made by hand from a natural fibre, no two are quite identical: a slightly different weave, a subtle shift in tone. We think that's exactly right. It's the fingerprint of something real, made by a person — not stamped out by a machine.

Our Promise

Buy better, use it longer

We're not here for fast fashion or this season's colour. We make practical, sustainable hemp backpacks and ethical travel bags built to be used for years, then repaired rather than thrown away.

Slow fashion isn't a slogan for us. It's just how we think a good bag should be made — and kept.

  • Made in small batches — never mass-produced.
  • Built to last, and backed by repairs rather than replacements.
  • Sent with as little plastic as we can manage.

“We'd rather sell you one bag that lasts ten years than ten that last one.”
